Weekly Wanderings…October 8th-14th

I wanted to recap my week before getting to the nitty gritty of my Rock ‘N’ Roll 10K experience. Check out my weekly wanderings pre-10K:

1. Breakfast of Champions

Blueberry oatmeal breakfast smoothie

I can’t believe I’ve never thought of doing this before, but it seems to be very popular on Pinterest to mix dry oatmeal into smoothies. I tried this blueberry-oatmeal smoothie for a quick breakfast on Wednesday:

  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup almond milk (or any kind of milk, I just like almond best)
  • 1/4 cup dry oatmeal

BAM. The flavor combo was nutty and naturally sweet, and the smoothie actually kept me full until lunch. Oh –  and it’s pretty much impossible to screw up. I think I’ll be testing out a few more of these simple smoothies next week.

2. (ORGANIC) HULK ANGRY

Organic Hulk

Spotted this gem on a coffee & juice cart in Union Square. I wonder if the Hulk is vegan too?

3. A Sunny Disposition

Yoga Mats - Lululemon

These colorful yoga mats caught my eye in the Union Square Lululemon store window. I think it’s time to get more zen in my life. Does anyone know any good yoga studios in NYC for beginner/intermediate yogis?

4. Pre-Race Carbs

Pre-race dinner - Libretto's NYC

I had an awesome pre-race dinner on Friday night at Libretto’s Pizzaria. In addition to the amazing house salad, I carbed up with their whole wheat penne primavera dish –  pasta cooked with zucchini, yellow squash, and broccoli in a light tomato sauce. The perfect way to fuel my 10K.

5. #2354

RnR # 2354

I had a blast at the Rock ‘N’ Roll 10K on Saturday. While I don’t think training for a marathon is in my near future, I do believe I may just start a collection of these bib # things…

Forever wandering,

  1. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog and Thanks for the tip about the smoothies! I’ll have to give it a shot in the morning!
Oh, and that whole marathon thing..? I’ve a feeling you’ll get the “bug”.
Stay healthy, stay happy, stay wandering!

    1. Hi Oneluckiegirl,

Thanks for checking out my blog too! Haha I’m trying to avoid the “bug” but I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be unavoidable for me to catch…

And you know I’ll def keep wandering 😉

  2. Looks like a great weekend! My go-to yoga studio is Yoga Vida; they have two locations (one in the Union Square/NYU area and one farther south on Broadway). Love, love, love Yoga Vida. 🙂

  3. I haven’t put raw oats in my smoothies in ages! I like adding a scoop of nut butter sometimes too. Between the fruit, non-dairy milk, oats, nut butter, and sometimes a handful of raw spinach, I’m good for hours.

Congrats on the 10k! Bib collecting is fun! (So is collecting race shirts.)

Jess – thanks for posting! So excited to try this one out. Adding avocado = genius!

    1. Hey Marathonmasochist – definitely try adding oatmeal! I made a strawberry-oatmeal smoothie this morning and am feeling great – not hungry at all. Let me know what you think when you do try it!

      (PS – love the name)

Had my first oatmeal smoothie earlier today actually. Was really nice, although separated quite quickly. Nothing a quick stir didn’t help. Congrats on your 10k

  5. Nice job! I have a sneaking suspicion that as time passes, the desire to run a half marathon may creep up on you. It always starts with one. I started running halfs in 2003 and have run at least once a year since. They are addicting!

  6. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m loving yours – especially the smoothies idea. Am going to shop for some fruits tomorrow and give it a shot! 🙂 Keep up your good work!
